The Verve's 'Urban Hymns' was THE British rock album of 1997/1998, including a host of 'modern classic' tunes. One to treasure, its success raised expectations for Richard Ashcroft's solo debut to fever pitch. In the glare of such close examination, it comes as more of a relief than a surprise to report that 'Alone With Everybody' is a very fine album. Richard has put together a superbly balanced collection of songs consisting of heartfelt ballads and loose-limbed groovers which will delight the legions who bought 'Urban Hymns'. Featuring the singles 'A Song For Lovers' and 'Money To Burn', 'Aloneà' proves to be well worth the wait!
